Project 1: Progress 2

Tweaking the antlers a bit, not sure which one looks better.

  1. I like the larger ones personally, I think it gives you more room to experiment with textures on the comb itself to feel a little more integrated!

  2. Nice changes to the antlers! It's reading much more as a deer, now. It would be nice if you made the larger combs slightly smaller. They almost overpower the rest of the piece. With that said, it's still a very strong visually interesting piece. I'm looking forward to seeing the environment.

  3. I love that you added smaller combs to make it read more as antlers. That's a nice touch. I also like that you are experimenting with antler size. I personally like the larger ones because you can experiment a little more with them.

  4. The way you used the smaller combs to make the other antler was a genius idea. Makes the fluidity of the idea of them morphing together easier to see now and like antlers. I would love to see the geometry that you put into the deer in to the comb. Might have to add your own shapes so that it will get a rounded feel then a flat comb. Look great!

  5. Personally, I like the one on top. I think the shape and added values give it a lot of dimension and make them look like part of the deer, not so much like combs sitting on his head. I also love the little combs, which give a nice transition as opposed to just the combs alone. It looks so good!!

  6. I find the larger antlers to be more interesting and provide a better focal point. Changing the perspective definitely seems more natural to the form of antlers, yet it still keeps the form of the combs. I'm interested to see how you'll develop the "polygonal" texture into the background.

  7. I love the idea with the smaller combs and I personally like the bigger comb antlers more because I feel like it gives the animal more character. You could probably add more of the combs and make the little combs gradually bigger while making them branch even more

  8. I like the bigger combs, they seem to pop out at you more. They still don't quite fit with the rest of the picture though... not really sure what to suggest for that, but keep tweaking at them until they blend. I like the smaller combs you added into the antlers though, it might be neat if you added in a few more of those.

  9. I see you added the antlers along with the comb I like that. I'd go with the top image!

  11. This looks incredible!! Having the smaller combs on the antlers is such a good idea! Not only does it help the flow of the piece, but it gives it the repetition and repeated patterns we talked about in class. I like the top one the best. Warping the combs, so they get bigger at the ends gives a nice focal point to the deer.
The only thing I noticed is that the deer's "antlers" seem really big. He looks top heavy. But I don't know, if that's how deer normally are or not.
    Really good job, though!

  12. I'm not sure which looks better either! Both look good, and have pros and cons. I love what you did with the smaller combs, it makes them real much more as antlers now. I like the way you skewed the larger antlers though, I think it makes them look more natural on the deers head.
I love the geometric style of the deer! You are doing a great job with this!

  13. Looking good so far, but I would vary the sizes of the smaller combs to make a better transition to the larger ones. Obviously the comb/antlers are stylized. Could the deer also be stylized a tad rather than the faithful render from the traced actual object? May exaggerate some features of the deer to make it more homogenous with the combs?
What about the background? Could it be targets? would it be on the table of a hairdresser? What can be added to strengthen the concept.
